Outside the box counselling
for creative thinkers, sensitive souls, cultural rebels & the queer community.
Pull up a seat - lets really talk about what matters to you.
Hello, I’m Vicky, a counsellor and facilitator based in the North of England.
I work with people based all over the UK - by Zoom, telephone and in person.
Thank you for visiting. The practice is currently closed to new therapy clients until September 2025 when I will have limited space available for remote sessions on Thursdays and Fridays by Zoom. In the meantime, have a look around and see if I may feel like a fit for you. You are welcome to get in touch with questions you may have, or to book a free discovery call.
About you
I often work with people who self define as highly sensitive, neurodivergent or alternative in some way. You may think, feel and experience the world differently and that can come with huge ups and downs.
You might be passionate about changing the world or just your small corner of it. Perhaps you want to use your voice and take up space, but don’t know where to start. Sometimes the weight of what you’re trying to handle or the world feels too great. Perhaps you look around and wonder how everyone else seems to be holding it together when you feel and think so deeply. I get it - life is often messy, unpredictable, and confusing, and at times it can feel like the cliff of overwhelm and burnout looms large.
As someone who gets sensitivity, wanting to make a difference, and the challenges of burning out and coming back from that, I'm passionate about helping you to befriend your feelings, and holding your world view and experiences with empathy and warmth.
I love collaborating with people who are questioning their identity, their next move or their place in the bigger scheme of things…
All of you and your uniqueness is welcome here - in the words of Le Tigre “And everything you think and everything you feel is alright, alright, alright, alright, alright!”
About me
I am an integrative counsellor which means I believe in finding the “right tool for the right job at the right time” and that your therapy should be as unique as you are.
I am always curious about the best parts of evidence based approaches for living authentically and believe strongly in the body-brain connection. I have undertaken recent training in DBT, ACT and somatic approaches.
I work part time within a university counselling service and previously worked for ten years within the arts and charities. This included the hospice sector, which has left me with a real passion around supporting people experiencing change, loss and grief. I also really get the pressures of work in schools, universities, charities and arts organisations.
About collaborating
We can draw on a range of trauma informed approaches when collaborating, but the main thing I offer is a thoughtful, reflective, and authentic approach to therapy. I am passionate about offering a space that feels as safe as possible whilst giving you room to explore the big themes and shadows in your life.
I believe in fierce compassion which means turning courageously towards what hurts and taking action to relieve distress, beginning with your relationship with your mind, body and spirit. My background in learning means that I am passionate about sharing approaches and exploring big ideas with you, so that you can begin to appreciate your unique brain and understand the “whys” of how you operate in the world. I strongly feel that counselling is about collaborating and as the expert in your own life and experience, I am here to support you as your walk the walk and make the changes that matter.
Sometimes life might feel like a sprint, a ramble, a marathon or maybe a cha cha cha (where you take two steps forward, and another back). Together we can find the right pace.
Whether you’re at a gloriously messy stage and need space to think and feel or close to coming up with a plan for world domination, I’d love to explore if I could be a helpful professional sidekick for this part of your journey.
Does that sound like a fit for you?
If so, lets connect!
I enjoy working with individuals, teams, and organisations and can offer short term and longer term approaches.
Please get in touch to discuss your hopes and needs…
I look forward to meeting you.
Warmly, Vicky (she/they)

Some of the communities that I work more often with include:
LGBTQIA+ and GRSD communities

Arts Professionals & Organisations
I understand the pressures of working in the cultural sector and have good experience of supporting managers, supervisors and anyone who self-defines as “creative” to navigate the challenges of this unique and dynamic sector.
I provide off the shelf and bespoke workforce development and training for arts organisations, with a particular expertise in compassionate leadership, managing change, trauma responsive practice & neuro-affirmative approaches.
Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families (ACA)
Anyone who experienced difficulties at home as a child is welcome here, whether or not you identify with the term “adult children of alcoholics and dysfunctional families”. I understand how difficulties may show up in your relationships, life and work through patterns of people pleasing, perfectionism, anxiety and rumination. I offer a supportive and affirmative approach to help you regain your sense of self and power.
Helpers & Carers
I’m passionate about supporting helpful people who are experiencing stress, burnout and compassion fatigue within the helping professions or their personal life. I am pleased to offer counselling, supervision and training to individuals and professionals working in learning and caring support roles.
